¡Saludos, amigos! My name is Luis Lopez. I’m a 12th-grade student at St. George’s Independent School in Collierville, Tennessee. I have been part of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) work since my freshman year. I wanted to join this coalition because, although I have been doing this work for a while at my predominantly white institution (PWI), most of the notices and other similar activities I do at my school fall on deaf ears. Usually, only other social justice activists tend to pay attention.

Also, I’m hoping that I can offer a unique perspective, coming from the South. I would like if one day, my entire school community could come together and use our difference for good, rather than as a tool to divide us. Sadly, my school is typically split by race and other identifiers which could make our school stronger. While we have been moving to a more equitable school, I want to push us further so we can go to a 100% equitable school! I hope I can bring my leadership qualities and my Southern charm to the table. Hasta pronto!!
